Easy steps to contact your state representative

The Big Utility Tax pushed by PG&E, SCE, SDG&E would increase the electricity bills of millions of working and middle class families. The Utility Tax will also remove the incentive for people to reduce their energy usage through conservation, energy efficiency, or solar panels.

California legislators created this mess last year when they passed AB 205, which includes a provision that allows big utilities to charge consumers an expensive Utility Tax. Now legislators need to fix it by passing AB 1999 (Irwin) to repeal the Utility Tax provision in AB 205 and reinstitute a cap.

You can help by urging your California Assemblymember and Senator to champion AB 1999.

If they are already a "co-author" of AB 1999, call and thank them

Here is a sample thank you message:

My name is ____. I live in ____. I want to THANK [Representative] for co-authoring the bill to repeal the Utility Tax. I appreciate their leadership, and encourage them to keep it up!

If they are NOT a "co-author" of AB 1999, call and tell them to become one

Here is a sample "please co-author" AB 1999 message:

My name is ___. I live in ___.  I’m calling to ask [REPRESENTATIVE] to co-author the bill to repeal the Utility Tax. The bill is AB 1999. The CPUC’s proposed $24 per month tax will increase utility bills for millions of working people who live in apartments or small homes. It will also discourage solar and energy conservation. The legislature needs to fix this mess by June 30th to protect millions of people from bill increases. Will you co-author AB 1999?
